Daniel Rappe, already convicted of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old, is charged with destroying evidence, obstructing justice and failing to register as a sex offender.
Rappe was charged in a superseding indictment in federal court after he allegedly cleared a computer of all files before federal agents could search it and failed to register as a sex offender.
Rappe, a 47-year-old Wheaton resident, was 29 when he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. He is serving time in DuPage County Jail.
According to the indictment, on March 16 through March 19, 2007, Rappe -- with the assistance of an unnamed individual -- destroyed data on computers he believed would be investigated by U.S. Marshals.
In the same time period, Rappe traveled to Indiana after two sex-related convictions.
