PORT CHESTER - A building manager raising questions about rumors that a convicted child rapist was sharing an apartment with an 8-year-old girl and her family led Port Chester police to discover that Pedro Rivera had moved without registering, police said.
Rivera had moved from the 50 S. Main St. apartment early in December, Police said. On Saturday, the 48-year-old went to police headquarters saying he did not know of the 10-day requirement to register.
Rivera, now of 139 S. Regent St., Port Chester, was charged with failure to notify change of address by a registered sex offender, a felony, Ladeairous said. He is due in Village Court today, having been held without bail since Dec. 28.
Rivera, a level two sex offender, served six years for the 1997 rape of a 13-year-old girl in Port Chester.
Until his arrest, Rivera had been employed by the contractor providing food services to The Journal News at One Gannett Drive in White Plains.
