A former elementary school librarian was sentenced Monday to 17 1/2 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, including pictures of him having sex with a 10-year-old girl he tutored.
Anthony Baker, 36, of Leavenworth, pleaded guilty in October to one count of producing child pornography. In his plea, he admitted: "I enticed a 10-year-old female to engage in sexual conduct."
Baker was charged after his wife -- who objected to his having the 10-year-old over to their house and buying the girl presents -- found evidence on his computer that he was collecting child pornography and chatting online with underage girls.
After Baker's wife turned the computer over to law enforcement, investigators found images of Baker and the girl engaged in oral sex on each other, photos of the two naked and photos of him having intercourse with the girl.
In his plea, Baker admitted that he began tutoring the girl when she was a student at a Leavenworth elementary school.
"Mr. Baker's sentence will not undo the damage he has done," U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren said. "But I hope it will serve to remind every parent and every educator that we all share the responsibility to protect our children from sexual predators."
On top of the prison sentence, Baker was ordered to pay $16,790 restitution for treatment and counseling for the victim. He also will be required to register as a sex offender after he is released from prison, and will be required to serve 20 years on supervised release.
