Catching Phillip Caldwell wasn't dumb luck. Federal, state and local agencies have all been pursuing him. Thursday afternoon they finally caught up with the Linton man.
Handcuffed and hotheaded Phillip Caldwell swore as FBI agents led him away. Caldwell faces a federal charge from California accusing him of distributing child pornography.
Indiana state police trooper Brent Robinson pulled him over heading southbound on US 41 in Sullivan County near Silver Street.
"It happened that I observed the vehicle and initiated the traffic stop," Robinson told News 10. "The FBI actually was over in Linton Indiana where he resides attempting to locate the subject, so they were quick to get here and took him into custody."
It's not clear if the internet plays a role in the child porn charges but officers did find something of interest in Caldwell's vehicle.
"When we did apprehend Mr. Caldwell, he did have in his possession a notebook containing numerous website address or email addresses," Sullivan County Sheriff's Department chief deputy David Haddix said.
The FBI is holding Phillip Caldwell in Indianapolis until he is extradited to California.
