Police say a registered sex offender in western Kentucky held a gasoline-soaked rag over a woman's mouth before he raped her.
The incident happened in Graves County. Police say William Clapp, 39, sexually assaulted the woman inside her own home. They say she then went to seek help at a nearby church.
Police say after the assault Clapp ran to his apartment and set his bed on fire. Police had to evacuate the building and pull Clapp out of a closet to arrest him.
Clapp is being held on a $500,000 bond. He's listed on the sex offender registry because of an incident involving a 13-year-old girl.
