A convicted sex offender was sentenced today to 60 days in jail after reaching a plea agreement on rape allegations involving a 7-year-old girl.
John Glen Thompson, 40, pleaded no contest today to two charges of indecent exposure involving a child in 2004 and 2005. Prosecutors dropped charges of rape and sexual contact, records show.
After entering the plea, Thompson was given a three-year prison sentence, which was suspended on the conditions that he spend 60 days in jail and be on probation for five years.
A co-defendant, 36-year-old Robert Wayne Mowery, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual contact with the same 7-year-old girl and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Thompson is on the sex offender registry for a 1998 Pennington County conviction for raping a 15-year-old girl.
