Brett Lopucki, 38, was arraigned on charges of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity, possession of child sexual abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit both crimes. He is free and on electronic monitoring after posting a $25,000 bond. The highest charge carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said Lopucki's wife reported in August that she saw her husband viewing what she thought was child pornography on his computer. She then looked at his computer and discovered photographs of naked boys and girls, some engaged in sexual acts with adults, and she immediately called police.
"He is pulling this stuff off Web sites," Bezotte said.
Police then executed a search warrant at the couple's White Lake Road home and seized three computers, which later revealed at least 10 sexually explicit photographs involving minors.
Police said Lopucki is a programmer for the University of Michigan Health System's information technology department.
Police sent the images to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and they received a report this month that indicated the photographs matched those of known child victims.
Lopucki has no known criminal history, but police are investigating whether he has molested any children, Bezotte said.
Lopucki is expected in court Jan. 13 for an exam conference.
Messages to Lopucki's office were not returned Thursday.
Bezotte said the Lopuckis have been married at least 10 years and have three kids, ages 2, 7 and 11.
