He was convicted in 1992 and served a 5- to 12-year prison sentence for sexually molesting a 5-year-old boy in Allentown.
A convicted sex offender and frequent prison inmate was arrested for lurking near Easton's Crayola Factory on Thursday afternoon, the same day he was released after serving about a year for the same crime, police said.
Lareau J. Laube, 57, was released Thursday from Northampton County Prison and later re-arrested, Easton Chief Larry Palmer said. He said Laube was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct at Two Rivers Landing.
''He did the same thing last time he got out of prison,'' Palmer said. He said Laube was arrested about a year ago and convicted of similar crimes.
Laube isn't new to the justice system.
He was convicted in 1992 and served a 5- to 12-year prison sentence for sexually molesting a 5-year-old boy in Allentown.
In 2007, Laube -- who had been arrested after being found sleeping near the Bethlehem Public Library -- was charged with giving a false name to police. He asked a judge to give him the maximum sentence because he didn't want to be released. During court proceedings, a prosecutor said that when police arrested Laube, he told them he was ''a menace to society and needed to be locked up and wanted to go to prison.''On Thursday, Palmer expressed concerns about Laube being a threat to the community and visitors to the Crayola Factory.
''This guy is very scary to us,'' he said. ''I have great concerns that if he gets out again he may do the same thing.''
