A man registered in Colbert County as a sex offender was arrested this afternoon in connection with a residential break-in and sexual assault of a woman Monday night in Mobile.
Ricky S. Veal Jr. was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sodomy and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. He remained tonight in the Mobile County Metro Jail without bail.
Veal is accused of breaking into the woman's home on Antares Drive in southwest Mobile and sexually assaulting her shortly before 11 p.m. Monday. He was arrested at 3 p.m. today after being discovered hiding in the attic of a relative's home on North Schillinger Road, according to police spokeswoman Officer Jacqueline Bridgeforth.
Bridgeforth said Veal is a registered sex offender in Colbert County with a conviction for indecent exposure. She said, however, that indecent exposure is not a crime that warrants the stricter requirements of the Alabama Community Notification Act. She said Veal was only required to give his address to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office when he moved to the Mobile area.
