Dayton police say they have arrested a man who is responsible for two rapes and an abduction this month alone.
They say this is not the first time William Spear, 30, has been accused of a sex crime. The Dayton man is already a registered sex offender. Spear has served time after convictions of attempted rape and gross sexual imposition.
Police arrested him Friday morning after a woman called police saying she had been raped. Sgt. Tom Flanders said, "This is a very bad guy. He obviously has little or no respect for his victims."
Officers took the tier 2, registered sex offender into custody when they spotted him walking down Nicholas Road after the alleged attack at Spear's Superior Ave. apartment.
Sgt. Flanders said Spear was already wanted on two different warrants. "In two of our investigations, there was a knife involved. Thankfully, no one was hurt by that knife. He's forceful and he uses weapons" said Flanders.
March 4, Flanders said Spear followed a woman as she walked down Rosedale Drive. Police suspect Spear forced the woman underneath a bridge and raped her.
March 5, police say he held a woman against her will inside his apartment. She got away unharmed. However, in this latest case, officers say Spear raped a woman who he had met on a phone chat line. The alleged rape occurred during a date.
Sgt. Flanders said, "There are predators out there and they will use any means possible, be it the computer or the telephone chat lines."
Spear is being held without bond on charges of rape and abduction.
