A registered sex offender from Woodsboro who offered to teach a 7-year-old girl about sex pleaded guilty today to sexual solicitation of a minor.

Frederick County Circuit Court Judge G. Edward Dwyer Jr. sentenced Charles Edward Smith Jr. to the maximum penalty -- 10 years in the Maryland Division of Correction.

On March 14, Smith's 58th birthday, he'll be back before another judge for violating a previous probation.

At that time, Judge John H. Tisdale likely will impose 8 1/2 years of previously suspended prison time. And he could tack it on to the 10 years Dwyer imposed today.
