A convicted sex offender who fell off police radar allegedly tried to kidnap a 4 year old girl from a midtown church Sunday.

John Drusts, 56, is being held at the Pima County Jail.

Police say Drusts grabbed the little girl inside the Santa Cruz Church at 22nd St. and 6th Ave. after pushing her 7 year old brother out of the way.

The girl's father was able to stop Drust before he got away. The girl is reportedly safe.

Police tell News 4 that Drusts is a registered sex offender from Phoenix who never registered in Tucson. He is being held on a $500,000 bond on felony charges of failure to change address as a sex offender, failure to register as a sex offender and kidnapping.
