A former Lee County sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
The Lee County Sheriff says Atkinson told the girl if she told anyone about the sex acts, he'd kill her.
But she did tell a DSS employee, and now Atkinson is in jail.
According to an arrest warrant, sometime between July and August, Atkinson forced a nine-year-old foster child to perform oral sex on him.
The warrant says he held a gun to her head in a bedroom in his house.
The Lee County Sheriff says the former deputy used his old uniform to intimidate the girl.
The victim is a foster child who deputies say was in the custody of Shirley Jackson, Wayne Atkinson's girlfriend.
Jackson faces charges of unlawful conduct towards a child because deputies say she would leave the child with Atkinson.
This isn't the first arrest for Atkinson. A background check shows a domestic violence charge in 1992 and a felony conviction of criminal sexual conduct and a lewd act on a minor in 1994.
Both of those charges came after Atkinson was off the force.
Wayne Atkinson is in jail awaiting a bond hearing, and Shirley Jackson has a $10,000 bond.
